Freies Wahlfach: Architekturvermittlung (Architekturfotografie)

The lessons – which will be held in English – will focus on technical, aesthetic and conceptual aspects of architectural photography. As a final group project, students will be invited to use the photographic language in order to explore, interpret and document cultural influences on architecture of “Global Village of Graz“.

Inspired by bibliographic references and concepts such Marc Augé’s „Non Places“ and Learning From Las Vegas by Venturi, Scott Brown and Izenour, through the medium of photography, the students identified urban places where the local identity fragments and regenerate in the form of an extended identity; places that can be found in the periphery of Graz today can cohabit „in the suburbs of Pasadena“ or Dubai. What emerges from those works is an almost obsessive seriality, where the human figure is absent, silent, while architectural elements alternate in the images between contrasts, homologation and super-postmodernity.

The course is divided into three parts: a theoretical introduction to the history of photography with a specific focus on photography in contemporary art, a practical part in which the fundamentals of digital postproduction are also implemented, and a final part dedicated to the development of exercises and the final projects.
